Hylan Moises, Ph.D.
Private Markets Strategist
Hylan Moises spent 25 years studying how the brain works before he started helping people with their finances. He earned his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Rochester and went on to become a Professor of Physiology and Neuroscience at the University of Michigan Medical School, where he built a distinguished research career.
A lifelong interest in the markets and a passion for investing led him to financial services. He began as an advisor at a large national firm, but left after a few years when he saw its product-driven approach put company interests ahead of clients. In 2007 he co-founded North Star Financial Advisors, an independent, fiduciary practice, and spent the next 15 years growing it as an Investment Advisor Representative of Commonwealth Financial Network.
Hylan joined Darden Wealth Group to focus on what he values most: personal service and unbiased investment advice that helps clients feel confident and secure.
His background in neuroscience shapes how he works. Years in the lab taught him to think critically, listen carefully and respect other points of view, and his understanding of how the brain makes financial decisions helps him see how clients think and feel about money. As the firm's tactical portfolio manager, he takes a contrarian approach built on one conviction: the only certainty is change. His goal is to stay resilient, nimble and adaptable when markets are not.
- Investment philosophy
- The decision of whether to be in or out of the market is far less important than having an established plan to determine asset allocation shifts if and when the market environment calls for it.
- Market beliefs
- Volatility and investment prices are nothing more than a reflection of the "psychology" of market participants. Learning to control one's emotions is an important key to becoming a successful investor.
